Yup! There is a new wave pool at Oak Point Recreation Center and it finally opened in 2023. The pool features dual-entry wave technology, which allows for waves to be generated from both ends of the pool.
New Wave Pool Opens in Plano
If you are a little hesitant to get in the water, please note that the wave pool is slightly different than a traditional wave pools you might have a visual of in your mind – it has a maximum depth of 42 inches. This makes it a safer option for new swimmers and small children.
The wave pool, the featured pool at Oak Point rec center is an elliptical shape with shallow entries on each side.
The pool also features a splash pad, elevated play structure, family leisure pool, shade structures, rentable cabanas, and a concessions area.
Architecturally it is quite an interesting outdoor pool and a must see!
The new wave pool was made possible by a $10 million bond referendum that was approved by Plano voters in 2017. The project was designed by Weston & Sampson architecture firm and built by CORE Construction.
The wave pool is open from Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day weekend. Daily admission is covered with your Plano Parks & Rec gym membership or you can pay for a daily rate which changes for for residents and non-residents. The gym or recreation membership, which gives them unlimited access to the pool and other Plano Parks & Recreation facilities is available in monthly increments or annually.
The new wave pool is a great addition to Plano’s recreation offerings. It is a fun and exciting place for people of all ages to cool off and have some fun in the sun.
