The McKinney Oktoberfest is back this year so pop it onto your calendar for September 23, 2022 – September 25, 2022 in McKinney’s Historic Downtown square.
Put on your lederhosen, your German attire or your favorite beer themed tshirt and plan on a great weekend at McKinney, TX!
Festivities will include traditional German music and food, children’s activities PLUS the quaint shops and restaurants will be open for you to enjoy as well. If you’ve ever been to McKinney on a Saturday, you can never quite get to all of the shops within a day. Some shops we always have to pop into while we are there include Habitat Plants + Coffee, Chase Hall, Barrons Estate Jewelers and Antiques and if we are hungry, we adore Hutchins BBQ. Everyone loves Hutchins, am I right?
[just so you know, blog posts are not sponsored or paid for by any city organization or private company, nor am I a realtor. I point this out frequently as this site has no other intention than to provide information for some of the places and areas of DFW that we love.]
Mckinney Oktoberfest
McKinney has always been known for it’s great events (prior to 2020). And now that Downtown McKinney has opened back up for business, attending their classic Oktoberfest festival is a great way to celebrate the fall, support many of the historic downtown McKinney businesses that have persevered, meet new friends and get your fix of traditional German music and food.
Here are some things you can enjoy at this year’s event: traditional German music, children’s activities, places to sit down with your family and new friends to enjoy the fair food and German Food, unique small businesses to support, entertainment to watch.
I have to say, this is probably the best Oktoberfest in all of DFW and that’s primarily because the location is perfection.
The McKinney Oktoberfest provides an amazing mix of fun for all ages with something for everyone . . . and if the temps get too hot, you can always pop into Square Burger or Rye for a meal (and in the past I would have strongly recommended Rye but sadly the fire has closed it down). Stay tuned on Rye!
Know a beer lover?
The beer garden will cover 14 blocks throughout McKinney’s Historic Downtown square.
The city does a great job of utilizing as much space in the historic district that allows attendees to peruse booths and explore all of the corners of downtown. It’s not only a perfect time to get reacquainted with Downtown McKinney and the shops that have been here for a long time but also the new shops that have come in.
Historic Downtown McKinney will host nonstop activities in the heart of the city on:
Friday, September 23, 5 p.m. to 11 p.m.
Saturday, September 24, 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.
Sunday, September 25, Noon to 5 p.m.
Supporting small business owners
Here’s something else to keep in mind, the vendors pay a good chunk of fees for their booths, about $400 just to be there. I should know as I once had a booth at their festival. Consider setting aside some extra money to buy something special at one of these booths. Each sale truly makes their day!
If you’re in town, be sure to stop by and enjoy the festivities! If you are coming from Dallas or Denton, there are plenty of hotel choices if you’d like to make a weekend out of it.
The McKinney Oktoberfest is going to be a fantastic way to ring in the Autumn season and you’ll be able to stuff yourself with traditional German food like bratwurst and sauerkraut while listening to music played on accordions.
I believe, like many of you, downtown McKinney provides a perfect backdrop for a festival bringing in the best season of all – Fall. If you are reading this and have yet to visit McKinney, consider this your invitation.
McKinney is one of the cities I get asked about the most over on my messages at Facebook – We Are Collin County. I feel like a mini tour guide.
