I’ve been in and out of Texas most of my life.
And lately I have been seeing a lot of change! It seems like everyone has pegged Texas, specifically North Texas as their next new home.
Over the past 5 years I’ve seen nothing but growth, growth and more growth!
You’ve all seen it, right?
More shops, restaurants, entertainments and lots more homes. I mean a lot more homes from East Dallas to Mansfield to Allen and up to Celina.
New companies have set up shop (heya Toyota), new families have moved in and lots and lots of new neighborhoods have joined us in this place we call “the metroplex”.
Additionally, I am so grateful that my readership has grown here on the blog but it also had me pondering how I could participate in the explosive growth by making a positive impact on Collin County and beyond.
So in addition to growing my blog . . . .
I’ve been so lucky to be part of a company who has chosen to put down their Texas roots – Sunrun Solar (go HERE).
Sunrun Solar started many many years ago at the San Francisco Farmer’s market where they found their very first solar customer. They have now been installing for over 20 years and have some of the strongest warranties in the nation. Its one of the reasons why Brian and I chose Sunrun because we wanted to know that our solar customer would be here with us for the long haul. Plus, I loved how they temed up with actor Mark Ruffalo and jumped in to support the efforts in Puerto Rico (check out the video HERE)
First, Brian and I made the [easy] decision to go solar on our home in Plano, Texas. The panels were free (along with the maintenance, insurance, monitoring, inverters, installation, warranties).
Plus, it was the equivalent of saving 390,567 miles of driving so that made me feel great since I love adventuring and driving around to the McKinney Square, hiking trails in Cedar Hill or grabbing some grub at the Shops of Legacy.
So of course, I started working for Sunrun. That’s right! I meet with families throughout the week to design their solar panel system.
It’s awesome using my local voice for something that truly matters, harnessing the power of the big bright Texas sunshine.
Solar is the future and I would love to bring you along on the solar journey just like our family went on.
Did you know this about solar in North Texas – – –
1. Solar has Incredible Potential
The amount of energy the Earth absorbs is equivalent to:
- 2.7 million earthquakes
- 40,000 times the total energy consumption in the United States
- 8,000 times the total consumption in the whole world.
- About 40% of the energy that is required to heat the entire volume of water we have on Earth by 1°Celsius
2. Is the Dallas metroplex big enough to make an impact?
In order to power the entire earth on renewable energy, we would need to install solar panels on over 191,000 square miles. Considering there are over 57 million square miles of land on earth, we have room to spare.
Here’s looking at you McKinney, Plano, Dallas, Richardson, Allen, Mesquite, Waxahachie, Grand Prairie, Ft Worth and everywhere in between. =) We have the roof space so its a perfect match!
The answer is YES, we are absolutely big enough to make a difference.
We are part of the Big D afterall.
3. Can we do better than Burlington, Vermont?
Burlington, Vermont, was the first city in America to achieve 100% sustainable energy production for its people.
In Texas, we do everything bigger and better . . our houses are bigger, heck our hair is bigger LOL
Let’s put our big a** roofs to use y’all
4. Solar Industry is hiring in North Texas!
Ready to kick that job to the curb and make an impact on your bank account AND the future of this planet?
As noted in 2016, more than 260,000 Americans currently work in the solar power industry. That number is expected to climb to more than 360,000 by 2021.
This is a win-win-win-win –> Renewable energy + job creation + job security + kicking Oncor and its rate hikes to the curb
5. Solar is the popular choice
If you want to sit with the cool kids at school then you’ll want to make more popular choices.
Tom Petty was a Sunrun Solar customer and huge fan of renewable energy, NASA is presently working on a solar-powered aircraft and just last year there was one new solar panel installation every 84 seconds.
Umm hello, everyone is doing it!
Texas is BIG enough to to install every 1 second (not just one every 84 seconds)! That would make us the head cheerleader and homecoming queen for sure =)
Solar + North Texas – – –
Its green, its clean and gosh darnit it controls your energy costs forever (I like to crank my AC in August and I know you do too).
I can’t wait to meet many of you and find out if you are eligible for the free panels.
Call me 😉
Actually, just go HERE
