Personally, I’ve never been a fan of Western medicine. I’ve avoided it like the plague since I was an itty bitty little girl. Being someone who was terrified of needles, surgeries and not being able to swallow pills somehow led me to all the crunchy kind of things. And finding holistic veterinarians in Dallas has been of utmost importance.
This doesn’t mean that I don’t believe there is a time and place for medicine and emergencies.
I’ve had a few kidney stones and I gladly accepted an IV with morphine.
Because kidney stones are ridiculously painful.
Although I did cry for about 10 minutes while the doc convinced me to handle the needle because that’s how the morhone would be delivered. LOL. =) I was 40, btw.
Anyway, my point being is that there is a time and place for all of it.
One item we’ve added to our household that I drink and use for Dutch & Dewey (plus a million of other household uses) is Diatomaceous Earth. I’m all about the heavy metal detoxing these days and this has been a fantastic addition. And helpful with the dogs as well.
If you haven’t heard of it, I invite you to explore this magical powder and do some of your own research on it.
This is what it looks like ⤵️
Holistic Veterinarians in Dallas
Let’s dive in . . .
What exactly makes holistic veterinarians different than a traditional animal hospital or veterinarian office?
Holistic care fosters a cooperative relationship between a pet owner, their animal, and the veterinarian to ensure the well-being of each individual pet.
Each animal is completely different and likewise should have a unique care plan tailored to their needs.
What I have discovered in Dallas is that many traditional veterinarians treat each dog the same way. Standard vaccinations are given yearly and standby medications and diets are dispensed indiscriminately while a holistic veterinarian explores deeper into the needs of each dog and each situation present.
I have found a traditional vet in Murphy that allows conversation and curiosity about all the things; however in the past I discovered most veterinarians have not allowed me to freely discuss items such as over-vaccination and the scientific studies linked to many major health issues in pets such as auto-immune diseases and cancer. Another condition is allergies in pets that are very common and I would prefer discussing all of the potential things that my be causing this issue before immediately prescribing medications.
I have found that holistic practitioners are open to these non-traditional conversations and are willing to work with Dog Moms to find better foods or formulate homemade diets catered specifically to the dog.
The biggest difference to the average pet owner is that holistic veterinarians strive to explore all other possibilities before medicating. Non-invasive and natural healing techniques such as acupuncture, chiropractic, food therapy, homeopathy and herbal supplements.
Again, we work with both types of veterinarians. Our traditional veterinarian has been in practice for over 50 years and has an old school way with our dogs. So I think you can find these open minded conversations outside of holistic veterinarians with a bit of digging around.
You have to decide what you think is best for your dog. =)
