Kayakers & Paddle Boarders rejoice! Paddle Boarding in Plano Texas is finally here! The Plano Parks and Recreation Department has opened the pond behind the Oak Point Park Nature and Retreat Center to free-range kayaking and stand up paddle boarding.
To be honest, it happened last year but news is still getting out. As a passionate kayaker and stand up paddle boarder, I want to scream it from the mountain tops. Okay, okay, maybe from the top of the Legacy West parking garage.
Where can you do this?
Go to Oak Point Park and Nature Preserve which is an 800-acre park in Plano, TX and is the largest park in Plano. The lake is open to kayaking, canoeing, and stand–up paddle boarding from sunrise to sunset.

How do you paddle board or kayak in Plano?
Well, its pretty easy once you have your Stand Up Paddle Board or Kayak.
If you want one right NOW, like right this very minute, you can pop over to the Field & Stream in Prosper.
If you can wait a quick minute, you can get this really cool foldable Kayak right here or an awesome Stand Up Paddle Board that’s actually inflatable (perfect if you think you would have nay trouble carrying it on top of your car).
Case in point, this Blue Water Toys inflatable kayak. Yup, its inflatable which means you can pack up from wherever you are in the metroplex to head over to Oak Point Nature Preserve.
Once you’ve got your gear (oh, don’t forget your life jacket) then you can head to the expansive, fun-filled park off of 75 and Spring Creek Parkway.
Make sure to enter from Los Rios Blvd to snag a good parking spot and walk your board or kayak over.
You can see the guidelines for water sports from the City of Plano right here.
See me in action right here 🏄
I walked my board over from the parking lot, then brought over my paddle, life jacket and personal belongings (yep, you’re going to want to secure your car keys).
I leave my flip flops at the shore, then I pop onto my board and get my favorite time – time in nature! Its a great time to think, meditate and of course, get a great workout.
