Fathers play an important role in their children’s lives. They provide love, support, and guidance. They teach their children about the world and help them to develop into confident and capable adults. Fathers also play a role in shaping their children’s values and beliefs.
With Father’s Day coming up, you might be looking to do something special for your Dad.
This week I lost my dad, George.
Its been an overwhelming experience as I quite possibly had the best Dad any child could ever have.
If you are a Dad or had a close relationship with yours, you are well aware that:
- Provide love and support. Fathers can show their love for their children in many ways, such as hugging them, telling them they love them, and spending time with them.
- Be a role model. Fathers are important role models for their children. They can teach their children about the importance of hard work, honesty, and respect.
- Provide guidance. Fathers can help their children to make good decisions and to navigate the challenges of life.
- Be involved in their children’s education. Fathers can help their children to succeed in school by talking to them about their schoolwork, helping them with their homework, and attending parent-teacher conferences.
- Set a good example. Fathers can set a good example for their children by living a healthy lifestyle, being responsible, and being involved in their community.
Fathers are the foundation of a well function society, rather than one that malfunctions.
I thought I would share a few of my Dad’s fave restaurants when he lived in Plano and also when he would come to visit.
If you are wondering where to take your Dad this Sunday, here’s a list of George-approved estaurants. Some are $ and others are $$$$$.
We all know that being together is more important than the money you spend. In fact, growing up in Florida, we spent almost every weekend at parks, hiking, playing outdoors and picnicking together as a family. We kept it simple and fun. A meal together whether at a picnic table or in a 5-star fancy restaurant is a GIFT to any parent.
#1 Hutchins BBQ in McKinney
One of the last places we visited together while strolling downtown McKinney.
#2 Country Burger
The OG location on 14th street in East Plano always hit the spot.
#3 Covinos
This family owned Italian restaurant might be some of the most delicious Italian food in the great state of Texas.
#4 Steak & Ale
Alrighty, I know this isn’t around anymore but the one on Central and Park Blvd was his jam. Interestingly enough, someone purchased the Steak & Ale brand and it’s making a comeback.
#5 Winner’s BBQ
If you blink you might miss it, so don’t blink and head over to this family spot now.
#6 Luby’s
Sometimes Luby’s Luann platter just hits the spot
#7 Any steakhouse
Steve Fields, Capital Grill, Bob’s Chophouse, Del Friscos, Silver Fox
The man liked his steak and baked potato . . . as most men do. =)
So on this day, and every day, let’s celebrate our dads. Let’s tell them how much we love and appreciate them. Let’s thank them for everything they do for us. And let’s make sure to tell them how special they are.
Thank you, Dads, for everything you do!
