I love road trips! Its a chance to throw anything in the car without too much extra thinking, grab the dogs and the hubby of course . . . and start an adventure. Embarking on the open road with the family, albeit a fur family is the beginning of making many memories. Yet, the only reason I take road trips so frequently is that I picked the perfect vehicle. I mean who wants to drive for hours in a cramped space, poor AC and a no way to keep the gadgets all charged up? I wouldn’t.
Especially when it feels like you are in the car for a decade before you even depart this great state of ours.
Choosing the right vehicle for your travel needs is something that takes careful consideration. I bought my Crosstrek last year with the intent of traveling around the state, to multiple functions in DFW and schlepping my adorable fur babies to their favorite dog parks (and then to Starbucks for Puppacinos). So when I was shopping for my car, I made sure to check for these essential things.
Here are two things to look for when selecting your road trip vehicle:
Good Gas Mileage
Lord only knows what will happen to gas prices from month to month or even day to day. And since we want to plan one of our road trips from Plano, Texas to Big Bend National Park, mileage is really important to me. I definitely want to get the best bang for my buck. I mean, don’t we all??
Choosing a vehicle that gets quality miles per gallon is essential for any road trip. Even more so on those long, desolate desert roads of West Texas. The best and worst gas mileage of 2018 is a resource that y’all will definitely want to bookmark.
Comfort
As the baby of my family, I was always stuck in the middle seat or basically anywhere I would fit. Heck, it was the ’80’s and back then there were way less rules. LOL. I miss those days =)
Anyway . . .
Road trips = more time sitting in the car, therefore, I’ve got to be comfortable and have my comforts. For me, that includes heated seats, air conditioning, automatic seat/mirror controls and ports to plug in my electronics. Texas weather can be brutally cold as we have all felt recently or brutally hot. But no matter what the weather, I loveeee the heated seats, it truly keeps my low back feeling amazing which is so important for sitting for long periods of time.
And lastly, comfort also includes being able to have my iPhone charged because Google Maps are my everything on the roads out here. And, I love being able to connect so I can listen to my favorite podcasts like Adam Carolla, NPR or Joe Rogan. Joe’s podcasts are typically 3 hours long which is perfect to have in the car while driving I-10 from San Antonio out West on the straightest, longest road to ever exist. A good podcast or a good playlist is essential. And so the car I chose would have to meet my digital needs for maximum comfort.
Since you’re a Texan, I know you value your car as much as I do, plus all those awesome road trips from Dallas to see Joanna Gaines in Waco or heading down further to Austin for a yummy taco, are in need of a good car for those adventures.

So now that you know what I look for, what is your tip when it comes to making a car purchase?
