Robert Kempf graduated from Texas State University with a dual degree in Accounting and Finance in 2011. After college, he worked as a tax preparer for three different CPA firms in eight years. And three years ago, he started his own bookkeeping firm in Dallas and has not looked back.
Robert is married, and and just became a Dad for the first time!! Robert and his wife were blessed with a baby girl in January 2021, and of course, she has become his entire world.
Let’s get to know Robert Kempf from HWB Services
I offer bookkeeping in Dallas and the name of my company is HWB Services. The H and W come from the first letters of my two dogs’ names, and the B stands for Bookkeeping.
My company maintains and updates a variety of businesses’ books. I also fix the books for businesses that may have gotten behind or may not fully appreciate the ins and outs of bookkeeping.
Lastly, I teach business owners how to understand what I do as a bookkeeper and how to read their financial data, in order for them to better understand the bookkeeping side of owning and running a business.
📌 HWB Services was started because all three of the CPA firms I worked for had the same problem ➡️ business owners did not have good bookkeeping in Dallas.
As a tax preparer, the books have to flow from year to year to be able to prepare a business tax return. I was spending most of my time fixing businesses’ books to then report on the tax return. When I told my bosses about the bottle neck, they all told me the same thing, that it wasn’t my job to think about how to make the firms more money, and go back to preparing tax returns.
That’s when I decided to start my bookkeeping firm. Now, instead of working for CPAs, I work with them.

What’s the one thing that your customers rave about?
My customers like my personality and the passion I have for bookkeeping. I love to teach business owners about their financial information and about what I do.
What is the #1 challenge that your clients/customers have when they reach out to you?
My clients books are behind and need to be caught up.
Did you always have a sense that you’d start your own business or a project of your own?
Yes. I always felt out of place when working for other people. I was very forward thinking and would constantly encounter the ideas that it will never be done that way, or we have always done it this way so we won’t change. I think all three CPA firms misunderstood me and how to properly utilize and apply my talents.
What does a typical day look like for you?
Mornings are client calls and meetings. Afternoons are logging into QuickBooks and sorting information in my current clients. Then evenings are when I start working on new clients, cleaning up their financial data.
What is an essential book that you you’ve enjoyed that you think everyone needs to read right away?
Rich Dad Poor Dad by Robert Kiyosaki
When working for the CPA firms, I never got that great of feedback from my bosses on my job performance. Now, working directly with business owners, people are seeing my worth and understanding the vision i have.
Every business owner should have good financial data to back their business. They should know where they stand with their business at any given moment.
I love when a client calls me up and says “Finally, this makes sense to me!”
Let’s transition to Dallas:
I love to go to Epic Waterpark in Grand Prairie and ride the Flowrider, which is a simulated surf wave that you can body board on. I also love escape rooms and am a frequent visitor of PanIQ Escape Room Dallas.
Where would you like to have a staycation in the Dallas area?
I would like to staycation at the Kimpton Pittman Hotel Dallas on Elm St.
Kevin O’Leary AKA Mr. Wonderful – I would take him to Nick & Sam’s
