Glen Rose is located about 90 minutes south of Plano, Texas or even less time if you are heading there from Dallas or Fort Worth and if you blink, you might miss this adorable town on the river. Its just at the junction of U.S. Highway 67 and State Highway 144 in central Somervell County. The town also has a cute town square, the Paluxy River, a bluegrass festival, farmer’s market, the Fossil Rim Wildlife Center, a pie shop (yahoo!!!) and one of our fave places to play around with the furbabies is Big Rocks Park in Glen Rose.
We first discovered it when we mountain biked Dinosaur Valley State Park (another incredible place to put on your bucket list) that your kids will have a total blast exploring.
Big Rocks Park in Glen Rose Texas
Located on the Paluxy River, Big Rocks Park is a full of unusually large rocks. There are plenty of shallow areas for children to climb, explore and play. Families can enjoy swimming and cooling off from the Texas heat or enjoy lunch sitting underneath the trees. There are plenty of areas to walk along the Paluxy. We love to visit in the morning with our camping chairs and coffee and in the afternoon, of course we are fully submerged in the water.
And here’s a close up look at the rocks.
Big Rocks Park in Glen Rose Texas has been a popular hangout for a long time. As the name says, there are big rocks, result of some geologic event thousands of years ago, that I completely don’t understand. What makes it interesting is that the Paluxy River flows by the rocks and the river bed is rock. The unusual rock forms and the river make for an interesting place to hang out for a little bit. Wading in the water is a popular pastime here in the early summer when there’s still water in the Paluxy.
If you cross the river by walking over the dam, the path will take you on a beautiful walk along the Paluxy River, passed the big playground and you’ll eventually run right into the historical village and downtown Glen Rose.
We just love this unique spot in Glen Rose and hope you get a chance to visit soon too! If you do, be sure to share your pics with us over on the FB Page
