Melissa Shepherd of MS Brand Gifts
My business name is MS Brand Gifts, where I started to make house warming gifts and other small things for my friends and family. As more people shared the gifts they received I found that, maybe I could turn my evening and weekend hobby into a business. I kept experimenting with different gift ideas from which it turned into adding and making more products. Since starting I have added candles, body soaps, body sugar scrubs, lip scrubs, lip scrubs, shower steamers and other crafts outside of beauty.
What’s the one thing that your readers and followers love?
Everyone loves the Rose Goats Milk Soap, and the Rose Sugar Scrub. I am constantly running out of those. Our newly launched shower steamers have been a hit too!
What is the #1 challenge that your clients/customers have when they reach out to you?
People come to my business because they are all handmade organic products.
Did you always have a sense that you’d start your own business or a project of your own?
I never thought that I would have a business but the more people liked the items, I was giving to them and with a little encouragement from one of my best friends I decided to give it a try.
What does a typical day look like for you?
I start every morning with coffee, there is no way I could even start my day before that first cup. Then it’s to my home office where I do my day job. Throughout the day, it’s just me and my dog until evening when everyone comes home. After dinner, I usually spend time working in my other home office, aka my craft room. I’ll fill whatever orders came, start new projects, update my website and social media accounts with new pictures and finish off any other products from the day before.
What is an essential book that you you’ve enjoyed that you think everyone needs to read right away?
What motivates me is seeing the joy that people have when they get my gifts. When the toilet paper shortage hit us, I made gift wrapped and bejeweled toilet paper care packages for the neighbors. Seeing them laugh and smile in a time of uncertainty made me feel good as well.

Where would you like to have a staycation in the Dallas area?
I would want to take my dad who passed away in 2012 to Mash’d. He had been to Texas when I was a child, but I would have loved to bring him here now so we could explore together.
